Hip, hip, hooray we're 8 years old! It feels like another lifetime back in D.C. in 2017 when the archive first took shape. Back then it was an Instagram page and a Tumblr account. In 2018 the archive moved with me, Liz, creator and curator of the project, to Dublin, Ireland. Then in 2019, we moved from Tumblr to our very own shiny website where we've been growing our community ever since.

Thank you for being here and being part of this social history passion project. This is a community space for 'letter lovers', however you identify! Whether you're an avid letter writer, interested in the historical context of the letters or a romantic you are very welcome here. I suppose in reflecting on 8 years of the archive I am bittersweet to remember those early days when it was just me, the letters and a Tumblr account that no one ever read. Now we have a growing audience on social media and monthly newsletter where I share letter stories -- our own and others we discover -- once a month with subscribers.

As I had no idea in 2017 where the archive would go I have a similarly blissful ignorance in 2025. I will continue this project for as long as it brings me joy and thankfully, it still does so very much. It is a privilege and a pleasure to be the 'keeper' of over 3,000 real handwritten letters sourced from flea markets and auctions.

Thank you for reading.
