The thing about a letter is the best ones rarely arrive when we're expecting them. That goes for passion projects, too. 9 years ago I started photographing envelopes and sharing them on Instagram. And now we're here looking at almost a decade of a project and the community that has knit itself together around it.
Creating this space has been one of the greatest joys of my life. It has brought me friendship, allowed me to explore the world differently and do my absolute favorite thing: talk about mail. With that being said I thought there might be no other way to mark 9 years of Flea Market Love Letters than borrowing your patience to tell you 9 things I have learnt in a decade of curating hundreds of 'real' letters from 100+ years of history.
The 'every day' is special.
Something tangible is priceless.
Your words are your legacy.
Love is more than romantic.
Everybody is scared.
Uncertainty is the only certainty.
Letters are a time capsule.
Ask questions.
When in doubt, send a letter.
Thank you, reader and letter lover, for being a part of Flea Market Love Letters. Long may it continue.
