Dear Mama

I am well and hope you all are the same. I would have written sooner but I haven’t had time. I have been on the go all the time haven’t went to let but three nights since I left. Well I like out here good I think, how is every body tell them hello for me. I shore have seen some pretty country. I went throo Arizona and California we are at Mare Island now I come over with some boys from Roswell. Well I am well youn’t need to worry about me for I am all right this is shore some pretty country well I will close for this time will write again in a day or two from your son Alfred N. Green

I guess I will send me clothes back in a few days you needn’t to send me my clothes for I don’t need them how is my horse getting along when he gets well you all sell him for me and Mama you keep the money for me. Well I will close write soon your son A.N. Green.
