Hello Letter Lovers...

Flea Market Turns 7!

Thanks for being here, gentle reader. Today we're celebrating 7 years of the archive. There's over 3,000 letters in the collection and we've shared close to 700 from 30 different series, or collections, since our start in 2017. Here's to the handwritten letter and those that write them!

Love Letters for Pride

June is Pride month and to mark that we're highlighting queer love letter stories. Sadly, there aren't many which we're aware of that have survived time. That makes the ones which have all the more precious. We were fascinated to find this gay WW2 love story in letters currently on display in the U.K. Artist Megan Hayward is presently looking for more LGBTQIA+ love letters for an installation inspired by the story.

If you're interested in learning more about the role of letters -- and the danger of writing or keeping them -- for queer folks in history we recommend 'A Secret Love' streaming on Netflix.

Grandpa's Letters

When Virginia woman Anna Prillaman found two boxes full of hundreds of WW2 era letters in her attic, she took the internet. Listen to the story from NPR.

180 Notes

The kids may just be alright. Massachusetts High School graduate Mason Macuch left 180 handwritten notes-- one for each of his classmates -- under their seats at commencement earlier this month.
