Hello Letter Lovers...

Snail Mail Saves the Day

Is there anything better than snail mail? With 'snail mail clubs' booming like this one from Irish maker 'Wish Penny Creations' and projects like Postcrossing continuing strong, there's still hope for the handwritten letter. Thank goodness!

In this month's newsletter we take a look at the Writing Equipment Society, share an update on ANADA and explore two historical letter stories from the press recently -- and one connection with our own archive!

ANADA Update

We've reached the halfway point for my 'A Note a Day August' (ANADA) letter writing challenge for the charity From Me to You! 

There's still plenty of time to help sponsor the great and necessary work the charity does to match donated letters with people experiencing cancer. 

Suffrage Letter

If you're familiar with our ethos that the Flea Market Love Letters archive exists to bring history out from drawers and under beds than this 'newly' rediscovered letter from suffragist Susan B. Anthony will no doubt pique your interest! 

Held in private collection for 50+ years this letter penned by Anthony to U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant is now with the Susan B. Anthony Museum. 

Titanic Letter

A letter written and posted from the last stop in Cobh, Ireland 4 days before the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic has sold for £60,000 at auction in the U.K.

White Star Line

Back in 2019 I was archiving the Stocker Family letters and recognized a familiar logo. The White Star Line will forever be infamously linked to the Titanic however this 1924 letter -- written over a decade after the horrific accident that claimed approximately 1,500 lives -- came from the "Doric".

Also built in Belfast by Harland and Wolff this ship was designed to serve between Canada and the U.K. which is where our 1924 letter finds the Stockers.
